What is Tapa?
Just a quaint little story an old man once told me:
The name tapas stems from the Spanish word 'tapa' meaning to cover. The first 'tapa' was a slice of ham served on top of a glass of wine so as not to let the flies in. Naturally the ham was then eaten. Barkeepers discovered the saltiness of the ham enhanced the beverage sales, and a tradition was born. Tapas bars are a style of eating in Spain. People started their evening out partaking of wine and a small morsel of food. They continued down the street trying to visit each bar and trying the interesting delicacies each bar has to offer.
